Korean Name Generator

Real Korean names — a family name from the big three (Kim, Lee, Park) plus a genuine two-syllable given name, surname first.

—

How these names are built

Korean surnames are famously concentrated: Kim, Lee and Park alone are carried by roughly half the population, and the top couple of dozen surnames cover nearly everyone. Given names are usually two syllables built from meaningful roots (Min, Jun, Seo, Ji, Woo), often shared across genders. This generator banks the real common surnames and given names in the native order — surname first, as in Kim Min-jun.

How the generator works

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do so many Koreans share the same surname?

Historical registration: surnames were recorded at specific points in Korean history, and a handful of clans expanded enormously. Half the country being Kim, Lee or Park is the legacy of that.

Are given names gendered?

Less rigidly than in English. Many syllables (Ji, Seo, Min) appear in names of any gender; context and the other syllable usually signal it.

Is the romanization exact?

The bank uses the standard Revised Romanization (Kim Min-jun, Lee Seo-yeon). Individual families may spell their own names differently in Latin letters.
